Want to Grow your Social Media Presence?

Then we've got you!

We know many students here at Voice by Chelsea are writing their own songs and creating their own music to share with a wide audience! But where do you even begin when it comes to promoting yourself as an artist? In today's digital age, establishing a strong online presence is essential for musicians looking to promote themselves and their art. With the power of the internet and social media, you can showcase your talent, engage with fans, and grow your career! We asked some of our “most followed” teachers, students, and friends their number one tip for building an online presence and reaching a wider audience.

Here's what they had to say!

“Post consistently and create content that makes you happy!

Creating videos with good lighting and sound is also a plus to help catch the eye of someone watching.” -Jillian, VBC teacher whose videos on TikTok have garnered thousands of views (@jilliancaillouettevoice)

“What was successful for us was finding a unique niche - something not a lot of people were posting about - and then posting more of that content. We also interact with every person who comments on our posts with something positive so that they feel like they’re part of a community.” -Pedro, friend of VBC and owner of Breakroom Entertainment, who recently racked up close to 3 million views (and counting) on TikTok for his Disney parodies (@breakroomentertainment)

"I try to post something at least once a week. As a children's artist, I always pass out my business cards after every show. I find that the next day I get followers on all my social media platforms." -Al, VBC student (aldecant.com)

“Make creative art and content that showcases you and shares your unique story with the world. The number one thing that separates artists and drives audiences towards you is your story. Create from the heart and promote your music in ways that feels authentic. If you’re a songwriter, hop on “open verses” on social media to gain exposure. And most importantly, experiment, try out everything. It’s okay to make mistakes- it will help you find your artistic visual identity.” -Clara, VBC teacher whose songs on YouTube have thousands of views (@cdrose7567)

“If you want to work on outreach, utilize platforms that focus on growth and have SEO such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube. Starting with short form content is a great way to build your audience. Then you can put out more full length content that you can monetize when you have established that audience.

-What you go viral for is what people will know you by and will want more of. This means that being your true authentic self will bring you an audience that aligns with your values and interests. While it can be tempting to just go with the trends to get higher numbers, putting out content that is unique to you will allow you to have a more genuine connection with your audience based on shared interests! A slower growth that is authentic to you is much more valuable than an overnight success that is unsustainable.”-Julia, VBC teacher who currently has 91k Tiktok followers (@juliamichellevoice)

Building a strong online presence as a musician is a gradual process that requires dedication, creativity, and consistency. By creating a professional website, utilizing social media platforms, sharing your music on streaming services, and engaging with your audience, you can effectively promote yourself and your music to a broader audience. Remember that authenticity and passion are key to building lasting connections with your fans and achieving long-term success in the music industry!
