Meet VBC Owner, Chelsea Olsen!

When it comes to learning how to sing, the right teacher can make all the difference. Every singer’s journey is unique, and having a guide who not only understands the voice but also knows how to inspire growth is invaluable. We love highlighting our incredible teachers to learn more about their background, teaching style and musician origin story, so this month we are shining the spotlight on our lead teacher and founder of Voice by Chelsea, Chelsea Olsen herself!

Chelsea Olsen is an experienced vocal teacher who spent over 10 years working as a pop songwriter and recording artist in New York and Los Angeles. Born and raised in Connecticut, Chelsea and her family still call New England home. Music, however, has also been a constant in her life from the very beginning. She says she started singing before she could even talk, and it didn’t take long for her natural gift to shine through and grab the attention of others.

One of her earliest defining moments came at just seven years old, when she spontaneously performed “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion at a family wedding. “I remember the crowd was moved to tears, and people kept telling my mom that I needed to be in lessons right away to pursue it more seriously. I am so happy she took that advice and did that for me! From there, I grew my craft and worked hard to strengthen my voice and perform wherever I could.” Through her many years of experience and lessons, Chelsea became well versed in many styles, but her heart belongs to soulful music, saying “R&B and soulful pop” are her favorite genres to sing.

During her time in NY and LA, she was blessed to work with many amazing vocal teachers. “Notably, Jan Smith (who taught many celebrities like Justin Bieber, Usher, Keisha Cole) and William Riley (best known for teaching Whitney Houston and Celine Dion!). They taught me a lot about vocal health and maintenance in addition to important techniques, so I was able to sustain long hours in recording and rehearsal studios. I was able to sing through sickness and really rely on my instrument, something super important for a professional performer.”

Luckily for us here at VBC, Chelsea began teaching while she was still pursuing her singing career and ended up falling in love with it! "Being able to share my knowledge and experiences to help other singers blossom and reach their full potential is so gratifying. I started in 2013, then transitioned from solo teaching to a physical studio with a team of teachers, and finally developed into the top-rated, nation-wide online lesson studio that Voice by Chelsea is today!" Chelsea and the VBC team have taught thousands of students from all over the world over the past few years, and proudly continue to help students discover their passion through online lessons!

Chelsea describes her teaching style as friendly, upbeat, encouraging, and honest. "I carefully hire teachers with a similar style as well, so that all lessons at Voice by Chelsea are both educational and fun! We want our students to feel joyful and excited while making progress. We are sure to tailor lessons to each individual student as well, helping them build confidence and skill in the ways they need in order to reach their singing goals."

"I’m so grateful to be surrounded by such talented, knowledgeable teachers and such passionate, dedicated students! I’m incredibly proud that we’ve been able to help thousands of singers strengthen their voices, discover the joy of music, and share their talents with confidence. Singing is not only a beautiful form of self expression, but also one of the most rewarding ways to connect with others. My hope is that we can continue inspiring and serving students for many more years to come!"
